About the Topic

Evolving career landscapes and interests can lead beyond the typical vertical climb through a given specialty in R&D. Fortunately, there are many paths potentially available for scientists seeking roles beyond the bench.

In this second PBSS workshop of a series, career transitions to Business Development (BD) / BioPartnering will be explored. Experienced experts from startup, biotech, and pharma companies, spanning both “sell” and “buy” sides, will describe the BD career path and provide advice, including:

  • The landscape of BD roles and responsibilities; status and trends
  • Differences between large and small companies
  • Paths to entering the field
  • Desirable attributes of those considering BD roles (what hiring managers might look for)
  • Lessons learned from careers in BD
  • Traits that might suggest avoiding the BD path
  • Pros and cons of the career
  • Personal advice and experiences

Each presentation will include brief Q&A, and the workshop will conclude with a panel discussion.

Subsequent workshops in the series will explore career transitions into Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Commercial, Venture Capital, Medical Affairs, Intellectual Property, and others.

An additional 1-day, in-person PBSS workshop on BD and BioPartnering is scheduled for February 26, 2025, presented by BD subject matter experts. Please continue to watch PBSS postings for details.
