Job Objective:      The application scientist is focused on the development of the company and its products’ scientific and technical credibility with our customer base and is an interface between the technical department and customer facing departments (sales, marketing and customer support) and directly with the customer.

 

Key Duties:

  • Carry out Applications training directly to customers, either on site or during training schools in the US. Primary focus is on Circular Dichroism technology and applications, but kinetic applications will be a secondary area
  • Participate in customer, collaborator and internally led applications development projects. To ensure our instruments are fit for purpose on specific applications and to also generate the data and application background material necessary to produce compelling applications-based marketing material.
  • Carry out on-site or in-house, support pre- and post-sales activities by performing product demonstrations or running customer samples and reporting results in a professional manner to the responsible sales person for discussion prior to sharing with the customer. Prepare content for sales support and marketing material for our products and their applications. This can be in many forms but primarily as web content, seminar and conference presentations, application notes, conference posters and technical notes.
  • Produce Customer Support material in the form of how to guides, manuals and Customer Support customer training material
  • Keep abreast of current trends in the biochemical sciences, particularly trends in the biopharmaceutical industry, and use this to help inform Applied Photophysics’ development and marketing activities
  • Present Applied Photophysics’ technology and applications to the wider scientific community at conferences, on-site or online customer seminars, and one on one with the customer
  • Answer escalated application enquirers from Sales and Customer support, either on the phone or via email
  • Participate in software testing, especially at the “whole instrument” and application level
  • Support customer in experimental design and assay development activities
  • Develop and maintain scientific relationships with collaborators and key customers
  • Train internal Applied Photophysics’ staff and distributors on Applied Photophysics’ products and their applications


Qualifications/Experience:

Education/ Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics or similar degree with emphasis on chemistry and biology
  • Research based post-graduate degree (PhD or MSc) or significant research and development experience
  • Ability to present high-level information to multiple audiences, including scientists, executives, and non-scientists. Excellent presentation, and communication skills
  • High quality written English and technical writing skills
  • A good understanding of protein structure and function is a requirement

 

Preferable Skills and Attributes:

  • Experience and knowledge of circular dichroism and/or stopped flow spectroscopy will be a big advantage
  • Experience in the biopharmaceutical would be of particular interest, especially in the biophysical characterization of biopharmaceuticals
  • Previous customer facing experience would be a significant advantage
