Position:
Bioanalytical Director, Biochemical & Cellular Pharmacology

Employer:
Genentech

Description:

Join a Team that Lives to Improve Lives

People come to Genentech from across disciplines and across the world to solve our most  challenging medical conditions. You’ll find inspiration in our passion for biotechnology, our purpose  to positively impact the lives of millions of patients and our dedication to our people. Joining  Genentech means being part of a tradition of inquiry that will change the world. It means embracing  our failures as much as our successes. It requires a willingness to look beyond the edge of what's  possible. And a focus on doing the day-to-day work that makes great science happen.

The following opportunity exists in our South San Francisco, CA headquarters:

Description

We are seeking a scientifically excellent Director to join the Biochemical and Cellular Pharmacology  (BCP) group to lead a group with technology expertise in characterizing and quantitating large  molecule therapeutics on both in vitro and in vivo assays. BCP designs and executes rigorous and  quantitative in vitro and cell based functional assays that faithfully recapitulate disease biology to  discover and evolve drug candidates from the earliest screening efforts at project inception to the  characterization of the final IND candidate. During these stages, BCP also has responsibility for all of  the bioanalytical analysis of large molecule therapeutics within Genentech Research.

This position will collaborate closely with various Research, Development Sciences and Pharma  Technology Development functions as well as other teams supporting the large molecule portfolio.  The position will lead a group of ~10 researchers responsible for technology building and  implementation in various bioanalytical analyses including in vitro stability, biotransformation,  pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, anti-drug antibody as well as screening campaigns of large  molecule therapeutics across all therapeutic areas. These data will be used for lead optimization,  candidate selection, and clinical translation.

Qualifications/Experience:

Who You Are

In this role, you and your team will continually adapt and evolve our innovative technology platforms  and informatics to suit the next generation of targets and therapeutic modalities. You will be a  member of the BCP senior leadership team and work directly with the Vice President on department  strategy as well as budget and resource deployment. You will build external relationships and  participate in strategy for Research portfolio support. You and your team will work very closely with  biologists, protein engineers, developmental scientists, safety, and manufacturing groups to drive  transformational therapies into the clinic.

The successful candidate must be inspired to lead teams of people to deliver new medicines for  patients. She/he must have a PhD or equivalent in immunology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry,  pharmacology or a related discipline with at least 10 years of work experience including prior  experience managing a team of Scientists. Experience leading large molecule drug discovery teams  and the ability to perform strategic decision-making and project prioritization is required. Expertise in  bioanalytical assay development is required and experience with laboratory informatics systems is  desired. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success leading drug discovery teams  and making high-impact scientific findings. The candidate must also be an excellent communicator  and have the ability to influence across functional teams. The candidate must have a  solution-oriented mindset toward both scientific problems and team dynamics. Excellent leadership  skills are required.
